this is raven.
he ran his 100,000th mile today and I was with him.
raven never made any excuses or let any reasons get in the way. he just ran 8 miles consecutively, every day for 34 years; 4 times around the earth (but running on South Beach every day). he continues to inspire me!

white stripes
crocus focus, hocus pocus! ever since I was a youngster, nothing made me happier about spring than noticing the little pockets of crocuses popping up in patches of grass everywhere.
this photo was taken at a local cemetary.
how to know if a little patch of green grassy stuff will yield pretty purple buds?
"the grass-like, ensiform lead shows a white central stripe along the leaf axis" that, my friends, is a surefire sign of a future crocus!!

lessons from a window
(window of Kanella Restaurant)
"Only by adhering to these three principles is it possible to create true gastronomy."
Perhaps too, some of this can be applied to life, though, I often struggle with the second point. What's the harm in experimenting every time you cook?

-time out-
“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won't adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words "make" and "stay" become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.”

speared!
i bought a bunch of asparagus on saturday morning.
after kickball, I cooked some spelt in olive oil with some garlic and red pepper--added sauteed asparagus and cremini mushrooms and a good bit of lemon juice. topped it with some parmesan cheese and enjoyed a snack!
later that evening I was biking home from a talent show in which I jumproped. a car full of drunken "cool-people" pulled up behind me and smacked me in the back with cardboard boxes. as I picked up the boxes that had fallen onto Walnut Street...
...one of the boxes was an empty asparagus box!

marching forth with Margot and Richie!
March Fourth:
My neighbor asked me to feed his two goldfish, Margot and Richie while he was out of town.
We all thought it would be fun to go on an after-supper field trip.
(Margot and Richie learning how to ride a bicycle)
(Margot and Richie, watch out for those nets!)
(Seeking the light at the end)
(Carefully observing the enemy)
Good times all around!
